CHAMPION Trinidad and Tobago paralympic athlete Akeem Stewart got an $80,000 contribution yesterday from Southern Sales Services and the Guardian Group to assist with his preparation for the July 14-23 World Para Athletics Championship in London.

The contribution rescued Stewart's World campaign as he is yet to receive funding under the Ministry of Sport and Youth and Affairs' Elite Athletes Assistance Programme (EAAP) for this year, despite submitting his application.

And the triple-world record-holding athlete has been unable to access the gym at the Dwight Yorke Stadium.

The World Para Athletics Championships will include 213 medal events, featuring approximately 1,300 athletes, and will be held across ten days of competition.

The event will form part of London's Summer of World Athletics when for the first time, the World Para Athletics Championships and the IAAF World Championships will be held in the same city over four weeks, featuring the globe's top track and field athletes at the iconic Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park
